Catholic Life
St. Patrick’s School aims to be a caring community where the potential of all involved in the school is appreciated, nurtured and developed and where Christian values are at the heart of all our school life.
Religious Education is central to the educative mission of the Church and it is the core of the core curriculum. It is the foundation of our entire educational process. The beliefs and values studied in Catholic religious education inspire and draw together every aspect of life in this school. Please follow the links at the bottom of the page to find out more about Catholic life in St Patrick’s School.
On 19th March, the Feast of St Joseph, we launched ‘The Year of St Joseph’ in school.
Pope Francis declared a ‘Year of St Joseph’ on the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of St Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church by Pope Pius IX, on 8th December 2020.
Pope Francis has written an apostolic letter reflecting on the fatherhood of Joseph: Patris Corde (with a Father’s Heart).
In St Patrick’s, we are reflecting on the virtues and qualities St. Joseph displayed throughout his life: tender and loving, obedient, hard -working, protective, accepting, courageous, creative, in the shadows and putting others first.
Every child has created a footstep, on which is written how they will follow in St Joseph’s footsteps in their daily lives. Some of these footsteps are on our ‘Following in St Joseph’s Footsteps’ display. As we move through the months of the year, moving along his journey, examples of how we can emulate the different qualities of St Joseph will be added to the path.
To help us celebrate our Year of St Joseph, we ask if you would discuss with your child their activity they have completed at the end of each month and then, as a family, to say this prayer to St. Joseph:
St Joseph,
Watch over us and care for us,
just as you cared for the child Jesus;
and by your help,
may we come to know your Son
and so to grow in strength and wisdom
and the favour of God.
Amen
