Enrichment and Experiences – Launch of the St Patrick’s Passport
We believe that enrichment and experiences give our children the opportunity to try new and varied activities that may not fit strictly within the ‘taught’ curriculum, but that help to develop positive character traits. They help to teach life skills that will benefit our children in, and beyond, the classroom, and can build an appreciation for cultural and community issues, sense of teamwork and social responsibility.
By character, we mean attributes, skills and behaviours, which we live out through our values (aspiration, equality, kindness honesty, understanding and courage) and our school ethos and mission.
We encourage children to develop the essential life skills of resilience, building positive relationships, managing emotions, working well with others and coping with challenging situations.

Last week was Anti-bullying Week. We started the week with Odd Socks Day to celebrate our individuality and what makes us unique. The theme of this year’s Anti-bullying Week was ‘Choose Respect’. In our assembly and class sessions, we explored how we can actively choose respect, and what we can do to stop bullying. Respect is one of our school rules and a Fundamental British Value – everyone has the right to be treated with respect. We talked about what this might look like in school, at home and in the wider world. We also recognised that this also links to what Jesus taught us when he said, ‘Do unto others as you would have them do to you.’ We want our school to be a safe place for everyone and we are committed to making every week an Anti-Bullying Week.
Remembrance Day 2024 On Monday 11th November, our School Council led a whole school assembly to mark Remembrance Day. Later in the day, all of our children from Years 1 to 6 visited the Cenotaph in Consett to lay a wreath and say a prayer of thanks for those who sacrificed their lives so that we could enjoy the peace and freedom that we have today. We will remember them.
We have signed up to CAFOD’s LiveSimply Award. The award reflects Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’ and is grounded in three fundamental and closely intertwined relationships, with God, with our neighbour, and with the earth itself. The award is rooted in Catholic Social Teaching and encourages our pupils to spend time in prayer and reflection whilst taking action together to respond to global poverty, injustice and the environmental crisis. We have identified nine actions that we hope will have a direct and lasting impact on our school, local and global communities. We are looking forward to putting our faith into action and hope that you will join us on this exciting journey.
